
Labubu, a global red-hot art toy character, has determined that it is moving towards cinematography, and Sony Pictures has acquired Labubu’s film adaptation rights, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, a front-line entertainment media in the United States.
It is not yet decided whether to use 2D animated, 3D animated, or to make it a reality film, nor are the core members of the production team, directors and so on.
The Sony industry has not responded to this news much, but has only determined that it has succeeded in taking over the production rights of the big screen. If the box office is ideal, the future will not rule out the creation of a whole universe, creating a new generation of global entertainment IPs.
Labubu was created by the designer Kasing Lung, from his series of stories depicting the Nordic Forest Elves, The Elf Sky, 2011 with the Toy Design Studio How2Work, and 2015 at the Elves Sky.

In around 2019, the twilight brand of POP MART took over the launch of Labubu’s multi-blind box goods, reinforced the collection and rareness of the IP, and allowed Labubu’s collection market to warm up rapidly, and Lisa, a member of the Korean women’s group BLACKPINK, used to wear Labubu as an adornment, further raising global attention.
Labubu’s heat surge is not just sweeping Asia, but even the black market in the United States to the “six-digit dollar”, and Deadline points out that Bubble Matt revealed in the annual 2024 newspaper that the Elf Skyes annual collections amounted to $430 million (about 23.3 per cent for the entire year); and $670 million, or 35 per cent of the brand’s total, increased in the first half of 2025.
In Japan, Harayama Jijien, POP MART, the store with Shibuya PARCO, is almost always in line. Labubu was not only on TV news, but also selected as the next red-hot commodity to “Yahoo!
