The former executive director of SIE, Jim Ryan, started with Days Gone in 2021, and allowed PlayStation’s many exclusive games to take up the PC Steam platform, when a number of players criticized it as a chicken-killing practice, but there were players who believed that moving across the platform was a necessary trend; almost five years later, Alinea Analytics, a foreign data analyst, had given an interesting report.
Let’s look at SIE’s overall performance in Steam, which, over four years, estimates that SIE’s turnover in Steam has been $1.5 billion, but on the basis of the platform’s principles, Sony actually got about $1.2 billion. Nearly five years, $1.2 billion does sound very big, yet PlayStation made $7 billion just last season.
Of course, nothing sells better than Jedi 2 in Steam, which is expected to sell more than 12 million units alone, followed by Horizon: zero light, and War God.
However, Alinea Analytics observed an interesting phenomenon, namely, that PS, which continues to sell these monopolistic games on the PC platform at a much slower rate than before, with about a third of the former, which can be applied to the continuations of The Horizon: West Banned (Cast the Horizon: The Dawn of Zero), War God: The Dizziness of the Gods (Cast of War), River Spider-Man 2.
According to Alinea Analytics, this slow-down in sales means that the new sense of PS ownership by PC players is fading, and transplants are no longer so powerful.
It may be a way to increase the turnover and reduce the time gap with the distribution of the PS platform, but in the complex context of Microsoft’s intention to open up its own system, Steam is about to launch the mainframe, Nintendo, to hold the barrier of exclusive ownership, which path the PS now chooses will be critical.
As SIE’s seniors have changed and the Japanese are back in power, there have recently been rumours that SIE intends to lower its focus on the PC, but this statement has not been officially confirmed and will depend on the real actions of SIE.
